Casa Moonshine is a modern, self-sufficient home in the peaceful, off-grid community of Zacatitos on the East Cape of Baja, Mexico. We rely on solar power, septic systems, and water storage. Conservation of these resources is necessary.
PROPERTY DETAILS
Two studio casitas and a large shady palapa sit poolside, surrounded by an ancient grove of giant Cardón Cacti and gardens that complement the natural scenery. A newly built rooftop patio is the cherry on top. You won't want to miss the sunsets from this incredible vantage point!
Each poolside casita includes:
- A comfortable queen-sized bed with quality bedding and a single cot mattress to accommodate a child.
- Fully stocked kitchenette (refrigerator, oven, sink, stove, coffee maker, and necessities for cooking and dining.)
- Full bathroom including towels, shampoo, conditioner and soap.
- Floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall sliding glass doors bring in plenty of natural light and stunning cactus and pool views.
- Air conditioning.
The swimming pool is nicely situated just steps outside the studio casitas with picturesque giant Cardón Cacti all around. The pool's shallow end is about a foot deep and perfect for wading, while the deeper end is ideal for swimming or taking a refreshing dip on a hot day.
The cozy outdoor living area, under the cool shade of the palapa, provides abundant comfortable seating and plenty of room to gather and enjoy your meals together. The palapa is the place to be for a mid-day siesta in a hammock, to tune out and read a book, play card games, or kick back and relax with a cold beverage.
A sufficient workstation could be set up under the palapa for those who work remotely. A reliable wi-fi connection is available throughout the property.
Guests will have access to the entire half-acre property, both poolside casitas, palapa, and pool. The casitas will not be rented individually to separate parties. During your stay, you will enjoy the privacy of having the entire property all to yourself.
NEED MORE SPACE? Casa Moonshine can now accommodate up to 8 Adults and 2 children with the completion of our two-bedroom Garden Casita! The Garden Casita sleeps up to 4 adults with one queen bed and two twin beds. This casita includes two connecting bedrooms and one full bathroom. It does not have a kitchenette. This 3rd casita will also not be rented separately on its own or to individual parties. It is only being offered as an optional add on to accommodate larger parties. OUTDOOR LIVING
Casa Moonshine was designed to embrace and enjoy the outdoors. The casitas provide comfortable indoor shelter for sleeping and cooking, and the plentiful outdoor living areas are for gathering and enjoying the serenity of the desert and the sea.
WILDLIFE
Zacatitos is home to an abundance of wildlife. You will surely meet some of these friendly locals during your stay. Wild Burros , Free Range Cattle, Deer, Silver Fox, Iguanas, Rabbits, Vultures, Hawks and a wide variety of other birds and reptiles.
SECURITY
Zacatitos is a safe and peaceful community. The property owners invest in a 24-hour security team, whom you will meet anytime you enter or leave the neighborhood and will see them patrolling at night.

We are located in the quiet beach community of Zacatitos. Casa Moonshine is a short drive outside the vibrant tourist cities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, but feels worlds away from all of that.
A rental car with high clearance is encouraged. Uber/ Lift is not available to get to and from Zacatitos at this time. We recommend Cactus Rent a Car. They offer a good selection of 4x4 vehicles which is nice to have on the dirt roads of the East Cape.
We can also recommend reliable and affordable Private Transportation services. They are available to drive you to and from the Airport, San Jose Del Cabo, Cabo San Lucas and East Cape. Please contact us for our recommendations.
We will provide detailed directions from the airport with a stop at a nice grocery store prior to travel.
- 45-minute drive to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) 40 Kilometers/ 25 Miles
- 20-minute drive to the Historic Art District, San Jose del Cabo, 17 Kilometers/ 10 Miles
- 1.5 hour drive to Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park (dirt road) 54 Kilometers/ 33 Miles
- 55-minute drive to Cabo San Lucas Marina, 50 Kilometers/ 31 Miles
- 1.5 hour drive to Todos Santos, 125 Kilometers/ 77 miles

Payment Schedule
20% of the total amount is due at time of reservation.
The remaining amount is to be paid 30 days before arrival.
Cancellation Policy
100% of paid prepayments refundable when canceled 30 days before arrival or earlier.
50% of paid prepayments refundable when canceled 14 days before arrival or earlier.
0% refundable if canceled after.
Security deposit
A pre-authorization of €258 is held on 0 days before arrival and voided on 2 days after departure

A one-time per stay cleaning fee will be added to each reservation.
A 5-night minimum stay with Three Casitas is required over Holidays (Two Casita Option is not available over Holidays)
A 3-night minimum stay is required all other dates.

Beautiful rural property with private pool!
We had an amazing stay at this beautiful, rural property. The home was very clean and having the pool all to ourselves made it feel like a private retreat. We chose not to rent a car and were still able to walk to the beach, a coffee shop, and a local restaurant. On most walks, we were greeted by the sweetest burros and their babies, which was such a charming touch. The whale watching from the beach this time of year was incredible and made our stay even more special. As a group of women seeking some rest & relaxation, we felt very safe and comfortable the entire time. Because the area is quite rural, we stopped at a grocery store on our way in and had everything we needed for a relaxing and unforgettable stay. Highly recommend!
Loved our stay!!
This is our second stay at Casa Moonshine. We just love the charm of the little cottages just a very short walk to a beautiful swimming beach. The cottages are very clean, comfortable and fully equipped to cook and enjoy meals together. And love the outside surroundings. A beautiful pool, wonderful outdoor seating and tables to enjoy the gardens, the birds, butterflies and dragonflies. Such a peaceful retreat! Thank you again. Hosts are also so welcoming and helpful with any need.

Sun, Sand, Surf and Donkeys
You won't be disappointed staying at Casa Moonshine. While the home isn't directly on the beach, it's nestled among a beautiful variety of trees, flowers, and cactus—truly stunning. About 25 min down the coast, you will find the perfect surfing waves in Los Fortuna. The property and surrounding community offer everything you need for an unforgettable vacation. And I almost forgot to mention the neighbourhood donkeys and humpback Wales that pass by daily.
Magical, safe and peaceful
Ladies trip (3 of us) enjoyed our time at Casa Moonshine. Off the grid yes but in a luxurious sustainable way. Its only 20 minutes to the lovely old San Jose and the marina to take Ocean excursions. Casa Moonshine was so comfortable from the beds to the lounges by the pool. Basically, a private beach is a close walk away. We lost count of how many Grey & Humpback whales we encountered. The layout and the architectural design is smart and lovely. We never had to turn on a fan or any A/C. The community is so friendly. Knowing there is private security in the community was a plus. We will be back for sure. Safe travels
An East Cape Gem
We love discovering new gems while exploring the East Cape. We are adding Casa Moonshine to that list! Such a great space designed to allow guests to enjoy all aspects of cape life. We enjoyed our stay and will be back!
Perfect

Five Stars
We had an incredible stay at casa moonshine with our two children (4 & 7). The pool was perfect for kids and adults alike. The palapa is perfect for a mid day retreat from the sun and the efficient casitas stay cool throughout the day. All amenities are top shelf and the kitchen well stocked with all the things you need to make a great meal. Beds are cozy, showers are great. Beach is absolutely beautiful and a short walk away. Also in town is Zac’s which has great food and a little coffee/smoothie bar in route to Zac’s. We absolutely loved our stay, caretaker and owner are fantastic and communicate quickly. Definitely stay here.

Exceptional hideaway that was perfect for our needs
We have been traveling and staying in this part of the cape for the last 5 years and have stayed at a variety of rentals from bare bones to the extravagant and for our needs this trip, Casa Moonshine was perfect. If you’ve been to the southern parts of the East cape you know that things like hot showers, WiFi and functioning appliances are not guaranteed. Casa Moonshine provided reliable services and a very comfortable and relaxing experience. Our hosts were quick to communicate and attentive to our needs without being overly concerned about our time there, we felt trusted with their home and appreciated for our business. When you travel to this part of the world it would be a shame to spend your time indoors. That being said, you want comfortable shelter at night and during the middle of the day when the sun is HOT. The house(s) are very cleverly and stylishly designed that have everything you need. The AC works well. The exterior has a very large palapa with tons of places to lounge. The pool is clean and functional for all ages with a shallower end for smaller kids and smart blocks dividing the deep end. The studios are new and in good shape. Quality appliances, comfortable beds, great linens, well stocked kitchens, beautifully maintained landscaping with massive cardon cactus's and all the beach necessities you need. A lovely little desert spot that we plan to return to again. Thank you Mooney family!
Perfect escape from reality!
Our family’s week at Casa Moonshine was stellar! The quiet & calm of the casitas & the property was just what we needed. Slow, lazy mornings with coffee by the pool or under the palapa followed by easy afternoons at the beach were perfect. Our kids enjoyed the remote feel & the neighborhood burros. We had a fantastic time snorkeling at Cabo Pulmo (per Susan’s recommendation) and also went on a hiking day trip with Baja Sierra in Santiago. The image of the pool and those amazing, old cacti that surround it will stay etched in our minds!
